Every activewear brand claims "moisture-wicking" — but what does it actually mean?
The Simple Explanation
Moisture-wicking fabric pulls sweat away from your skin and spreads it across a larger surface area of the fabric, where it evaporates faster. Instead of sweat pooling against your skin (like cotton does), it gets transported to the outer surface of the fabric where air can dry it.
How It Works
The fibres are engineered with tiny channels or a hydrophobic coating that repels moisture inward. Capillary action then draws the moisture along the fibre to the outer surface. The result: your skin stays drier, you feel cooler, and the fabric dries faster.
Does It Actually Work?
Yes — but quality matters. Premium moisture-wicking fabric (like nylon-spandex blends) performs significantly better than cheap polyester labelled "moisture-wicking." The difference is in the fibre engineering and fabric construction.
Why It Matters for Training
Dry skin = less chafing. Faster evaporation = better temperature regulation. Less retained moisture = lighter clothing. Better performance overall.
All GPS FitWear pieces use genuine moisture-wicking technology — not just a marketing label.
